Baserow
Build databases that feel like spreadsheets, a self-hosted Airtable alternative.
by Baserow B.V.
Overview
Baserow turns your data into collaborative tables you edit like a spreadsheet: add fields with real types, link tables into relationships, and view the same records as a grid, gallery, kanban board, calendar, or form. Everything lives in a database on your own box, and every table you build gets a documented REST API for free. malmo provisions and manages the database and cache Baserow needs, so there is nothing to wire up.
Features
- Grid, gallery, kanban, calendar, and form views over the same records
- Real field types (dates, files, single and multiple select, ratings) plus formula and lookup fields that calculate across linked tables
- Link tables into relationships to build trackers, CRMs, inventories, and content calendars your whole team can edit at once
- Live collaboration: edits, comments, and presence show up as they happen
- An automatically generated REST API, with docs, over everything you build
- Automations and webhooks that fire when rows change
- Import from CSV, XML, JSON, Paste, or an existing Airtable base
Setting up
The first account you register after install becomes the administrator.
Good to know
Workspace invitations, password resets, and notification emails are sent by email. Until an administrator adds an outgoing email account in malmo and binds it to this app, those features quietly do nothing while everything else works: you can still create accounts by registering them directly, and everyone signs in with an email and password.
Baserow's optional AI assistant needs a Postgres vector extension that malmo's managed database does not carry, so assistant search over your data is unavailable. This affects only that assistant. Tables, views, formulas, automations, and the API are all unaffected.
Baserow runs as several pieces (a web frontend, an API, three background workers, and a router), so it is happier on a box with a few gigabytes of memory to spare and takes a little longer to install than most apps.
